Rainbow Over the Charles

When the lighting outside turned golden, and this rainbow appeared in the sky over my house,
I immediately jumped into my car in the hopes of capturing an image from an unobstructed view.
Fearful that the sun would slip behind a cloud, I stopped along the way to snap a couple of shots
but miraculously arrived at the Main Street Bridge over the Charles River before all the magic disappeared.
What a breathtaking view of a double rainbow with a full reflection in the river.

Outtake

This family shoot turned a wintery corner
when the sun set and snow flurries filled the air.
Despite the cold New England conditions (and with the formal shots well behind us),
we had a little fun and created this spooky family "album cover."

Mother and Child

This precious child was but a week old
when his beautiful mother posed with him in their home.
Their gentle bond is palpable in this shot.

Dingle Bay

The Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry
is a lovely quaint getaway in the farthest corner of southwest Ireland.
The village is lovely, and the views are magnificant.

Baby Fox

I heard that there was a fox den in my local cemetary, so I strapped on my camera and took a walk at dusk.
Sure enough, as I rounded the corner where the rhododendron bushes were in full bloom,
I spotted a group of 4-5 fox cubs frolicking (yes, joyfully and playfully frolicking!) in the sunlight.
They froze and then darted off as I raised my camera for a shot. So I took cover behind a wall, and eventually, this brave little baby stepped out and posed for me.
The mother fox was barking a warning from the hill to my left, at which point we both took our leave.

Pomegranate Pop

The Vienna Naschmarkt is a very exciting place to visit in Austria's capital.
It dates back to the 16th century and still draws a crowd.
The bustle, sounds, and smells make it a great tourist destination
and the colorful sights make it a photographer's dream.

Outstanding in His Field

Driving through the Italian Alps on a warm August day in 2015,
I spied this man surveying his cornfield.
Behind him was a charming little neighborhood, with a magnificent castle perched above on a hill.
And miles beyond that, the Italian Alps provided a majestic backdrop.

Barnstable Barn

The beauty of Cape Cod is starkly in evidence in the winter
when the cold crisp air and shuttered restaurants keep the tourists away
leaving the peace and quiet to those who appreciate this vacation spot for its lonely seacoast charm.
On this clear January day, I captured the long shadows over the seashell driveway of this beautiful barn.

Surf's Up!

In August of 2017, The Fathoms performed on the beach
at The Asbury Park Surf Music Festival in New Jersey.
The crowd was as entertaining as the performers and
the band was enthusiastically received on that beautiful summer evening!

Summer Solstice

On June 21, 2018, I took myself to the highest point in Medfield overlooking the Charles River.
The cloud cover was just right and the colors spectacular.
I enjoyed the view and dropped the shutter many times but it was this shot of three strangers
that I captured as I turned around one last time that I choose to share.

Step Back in Time

The Chain Bridge in Nuremberg is the oldest chain bridge on the European continent.
Both the architecture and view of the river are beautiful to behold,
but you'll have to take my word for it as I share the image of tourists' feet.

One Man's View

One of Prague's residents threw open his sash
to catch the show of bell ringers and whip performers across the street.
I found as much culture in this sight as the big display for tourists
happening right behind me at Prague's Cultural Center.

Old Cape Cod

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air,
Dennis Beach at low tide is the place you want to be.
I crouched down low and wet in the tidal pool to capture
this inviting pair of beach chairs on a lovely Sunday night in June.

We Remember

The late day shadows were long at Vine Lake Cemetery.
Flags had been carefully placed to honor the veterans on this Memorial Day.
I savored the serenity and beauty,
feeling humbled by the legacy of this ancient burial ground.

Isabella's Palace

Isabella Stewart Gardner built this magnificent Museum Palace to display her personal art collection.
Nearly 100 years later, little has changed (per her will and for every good reason imaginable).
My companion last week reluctantly posed for this image, believing that art should be appreciated and not photographed.
She is correct, of course, but I stubbornly captured some interiors as well as the stunning courtyard,
breathtaking art itself, always steps away from the dimly lit rooms full of history, beauty, and intrigue.

March Snow

The third nor'easter in two weeks left the property covered with two feet of snow.
The next morning, the dawn illuminated the woods with a pinkish glow
settling softly over the shed and the back woods.

Blue Hour

The blue hour is that magical window of time when the light
shifts from day to night- an "even-ing" of tone.
This particular shot is of the famous hole-in-the-wall in Worcester, "Vincent's,"
where The Fathoms' music and meatball sandwiches are consumed with equal parts entertainment and joy.

Towering

Las Vegas is a weird and wacky place, filled with sights, sounds, and smells like no other.
If you can wrench your eyes away from the people for a moment,
just look up over the casino to see an "Eiffel Tower" straddling and stretching above.

Medfield, MA 08-21-17

I was not prepared to either view or photograph the partial eclipse,
